As much as we hated to leave Umbria, Judy wanted me to get at least a taste of Rome, so we returned the Panda to Fiumicino and took the 30-minute Leonardo express train to the historic center of Rome. Our lodging was at the very pleasant Hotel Hiberia just down the street from La Quirinale, Italy's Presidential Palace. While difficult to navigate the twisted streets, with the help of a paper map and Google maps were were able to make our way around the Palatine Hill, the Colosseum, and to the Jewish area, where we took a cafe table for a drink. We had a standard antipasto - pasta - main course dinner at La Lanterna, where we were entertained by a (“famous,” by his admission) retired journalist channeling Truman Capote. He had been head of La Repubblica’s World Desk for some years, and certainly had the stories.
